The genesis of this exhibition springs from my deep connection with the Transcendental Painting Group (1938 – 1945) and my gallery’s recent acquisition of Agnes Pelton's masterpiece, "The Being; A Transcendental Vision." With three decades of experience as a gallery owner in Santa Fe, I've developed a deep appreciation for the significance of landscape and the artists’ ability to capture the essence of the land and the spirit of the earth. Moreover, as a woman in the art world, I am driven to highlight the formidable contributions of female artists whose dynamic and distinctive canvases serve as evocative expressions of both earthly and celestial imagery. This exhibition is a celebration of their power and vision.

Each piece featured in the exhibition has been meticulously chosen to embody a shared philosophy, a reverence for spirituality, and an acknowledgment of the timeless essence found within art. These artworks adeptly merge natural landscapes with ethereal visions, honoring serving as a testament to the enduring resonance of creativity by transcending the mundane and connecting us to the spiritual and cosmic dimensions.

The utilization of color stands as a pivotal element within these creations. Colors become a conduit for emotions, allowing the artists to convey a sense of boundlessness and the intrinsic energies of nature. Within some of these canvases, light dances in an atmospheric ballet, infusing scenes with vitality and harmony. The artworks pulsate with movement yet remain in perfect accord with the rhythms of nature.

Each work bears the unique imprint of its creator, serving as a personal expression of ideas relevant both to our contemporary era and throughout the annals of history. They stand as poignant reminders of the enduring dialogue between the human spirit and the mysteries of existence.

These powerful woman artists have made significant contributions to the art world, each with their own unique styles and perspectives. They contribute to the rich tapestry of artistic expression showcased in this exhibition with works that span over 100 years. I hope the exhibition will have a profound effect on the viewer.

Here are highlights from a few of the featured artists:

Mimi Ting, whose compositions capture the fluidity and grace of the human form, reflecting her deep connection to dance and movement. Grace Rosario Perkins uses her work to express themes of grief, hope, and conversations about identity and place, inviting viewers to reflect on their own relationships with culture and heritage.

Irene Monat Stern's color field color field canvases express powerful visual sensations and forms, evoking a sense of wonder and awe. Rachael MacFarlane explores the powerful psychological nuances of illusionistic space, creating immersive environments that challenge viewers' perceptions.

Sheila Isham's subtly painted color field abstract work suggests eliciting vibrations on a spiritual level and are like atmospheric color abstractions on and metaphysical vibrations level, inviting viewers to contemplate the vastness of the universe and their place within it. Nancy Genn's art, influenced by Asian calligraphy and the natural world, captures the interplay between plant surfaces and atmospheric elements, evoking a sense of harmony and balance.

“I am thrilled to present this exhibition, which showcases the diverse and captivating interpretations of cosmic and spiritual themes by these talented women artists," says Victoria Addison Rowe, owner of Addison Rowe Gallery. "Their art serves as a testament to the enduring power of creativity and its ability to transcend the physical and connect us to the spiritual and cosmic realms."
